TWFG Past Events

March 2012 - TWFG Business Showcase Event

On March 6 2012, TWFG had another first - members showcasing their business. 12 members participated to exhibit their businesses which for some were businesses not necessarily affiliated with TWFG or we were not aware of them being entrepreneurs in other areas.

Everyone enjoyed the time spent with members showcasing and explaining what they did and how they did it! We had all that participated introduce themselves and say a few words to the group.

The consensus of the group was an overwhelming approval – we are now going to have 3-4 exhibit tables at our meetings.

Be sure to let us know if you would like to participate!

If interested please email events@twfg.org.

February 2012 - TWFG Goes Bowling!

On February 10,2012 TWFG had an evening of bowling at 300 Long Island in Melville. As a “thank you” to all of our committed members this was a free event. Each member was also encouraged to bring a friend and we invited our friends currently considering joining the group.

Tommie rented the private party room that welcomed “The Women’s Financial Group” on the revolving marquis! We had appetizers, a variety of thin crust delicious pizzas and salad.

We organized three teams for the competition and all 23 of us became bowlers for two fun filled, hilarious hours. Each of us did our best to help add pins to our team’s total score.

And for those they did not hear, Joanie’s team beat Audrey’ s team and came in FIRST!

Everyone said they had so much fun - and what a great way to have a meeting. The feedback was so positive, built camaraderie, and actually allowed people to connect & network to establish ongoing relationships - this will be an annual event! .

November 1, 2011 - You'll Never Eliminate Rejection

There's no getting around it... rejection is part of the selling experience. While you can't eliminate experiencing rejection, you can learn to deal with it. And, you can learn to overcome your fear of it. But first, you must identify what it is that you're afraid of. Is it failure? This was our topic for the 11-1-2011 meeting with Rob Fishman from Sandler Training. As usual, Rob imparted his knowledge & coaching with us on a very pertinent topic in today’s environment. What was so great about this meeting, was the interaction between Rob & the audience. He imparted to us the fact that rejection is a part of our everyday lives so how do we cope within, address it and handle it. The meeting was enlightening, educational, and gave us all confidence in handling our own rejections in life – whether it be in our personal or career lives. Thank you Rob for an evening well spent! October 13, 2011 – What To Do With Your Thanksgiving Leftovers
Cirella’s Café in Saks, Walt Whitman Mall
Chef Anthony Trobiano, & Kendall Jackson Family of Wines

Chef Anthony Trobiano And Kendall Jackson Family of Wines demonstrated an evening of “What to do with your Thanksgiving Leftovers”. The food was so very delicious, recipes easy and the wine was perfectly paired with each course.

Chef Anthony made every course and explained in detail how to prepare. As he added the ingredients to the pan the smell of Thanksgiving filled the room. everyone really loved having our food prepared right in front of us. It was fabulous.

Adam, the Kendall Jackson representative gave an extensive education on all the wines presented from types of grapes to fermentation to paring it. A gift bag was given to each guest, compliments of the Cirella Family. We look forward to visiting again soon. It is a great way to do something for ourselves.

September 13, 2011 - Knockout Networking
Michael Goldberg

On Sept 13 TWFG invited author Michael Goldberg to speak to us about Knock out Networking with this engaging and energetic style. We started out all playing “human bingo”. The goal was to find a person who had the same answer to a question as yours; what was your last movie, what is your zodiac sign, who has same pets. We had to ask each other the questions to try to get a match, so we both could mark a box on our human bingo card. It leveled the playing field we were all looking for the same result. It was interesting to see how we starting putting people together that we knew had a match.

Michael spoke about how there should be a set rules for networking, similar the rules posted at a public pool. Michael developed the Pool Rules of Networking, which as he explained should be posted at door of every networking event. My, a favorite is “No Selling Ever”.

Michael explained how important is to keep your peripherals open in order to pay attention to what is happening in the room. An important tool is to take notice of who in the room everyone is seeking out, you should introduce yourself to that person. He reminded us that networking is not an event it is a process, it is continuous and cyclical. It takes time to develop relationships and to build trust with others. Michael’s book Knockout Networking provides this in detail making it an excellent tool to help navigate the networking waters. We appreciate Michael taking time to join us.
